Springtime Walking Northern Cyprus

North Cyprus in springtime is an absolute delight, when many kinds of wild flowers can be seen in the mountains, valleys, along the coast roads, around the reservoirs and castles.

Over 31 different species of wild orchid have been identified in Northern Cyprus, among them, the endemic Cyprus Bee Orchid. One of the extraordinary aspects of this orchid population is the abundance of rare species. Other endemic plant species, such as the wild tulip and the Hilarion cabbage, may also be found.

North Cyprus, lying on a main migratory route between Europe and North Africa, is an ornithologist's dream come true. Chukkar, Black Francolin and a selection of birds of prey are easily sighted. There are also the endemic species such as the Cyprus Pied Wheatear and the locally breeding Cyprus Warbler which are a delight.

There is much of historical interest in Northern Cyprus from Crusader Castles and the beautiful abbey of Bellapais to the remains of the ancient city of Salamis and much more.

Our highly experienced walking guide is a retired forester with a love and deep knowledge of local flora and fauna, and an excellent knowledge of the spectacular views, superb walks and interesting places to visit. We therefore leave tailoring the fine details of your itinerary to him.

Itinerary - Day 1

Arrive at Ercan airport and transfer to the Riviera Holiday Village in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Day 2

This morning you will be visited by our representative and your walking guide, Yucel, who will plan and discuss the walking tours with you, taking into consideration the mix of walkers, their ability and interests. You are free this afternoon and evening and we would suggest an excursion into nearby Kyrenia for dinner.

Day 3

Today and tomorrow will be the first of your walking days, all of which include lunch.

Day 4

Walking day: a sample itinerary (4/5 hours) would be: 09.30 Pick up from your hotel tour from Uc Yol picnic area 11.30 You will arrive at the site of a burnt out tank from the 70's - there are lovely views from this isolated location. 12.30 You will follow through to the bottom of Sevili Hill where you will lunch 13.30 After lunch, you walk through to Lapta and Baspinar for a "coffee" break 16.00 Return transfer to the hotel.

Day 5

This will be a free day when you might wish to visit Nicosia or the Karpaz peninsular (our representative could help you with these arrangements - talk to her during your morning meeting on Day 2).

Day 6

Your third walking day.

Day 7

Your fourth and final walking day.

Day 8

Prepare for your transfer to your return flight to Heathrow.
